camber adjustment

This won't mean much to anyone else, but I'll write it here before I forget. I raised the passenger side front suspension by 4 x 1/4 turn of the adjusting screw. The aim is to slightly reduce the camber (less negative) and to match up the left and right sides slightly better. lock nut is 24mm (a deep socket would have helped a bit). Lock nut 12mm square Now measured as: Driver's side 414mm +/-3mm Passenger side 395 mm Not sure about that! >>>>>>>>>>>>> Previously on the Iveco 4x4 forum June 2014: What is the new eye-to-eye length of your shock now that you've raised it That's a good idea measuring at the shock absorber; wish I'd thought of that when adjusting mine. Drivers side: 414 passenger side 395 Driver's side looks good just a hint of negative camber. Passenger side slightly more pronounced camber and signs of wear on the outer side of tyre.

Giraffe stole our parking space

Shrewsbury folk festival 22- 25 August 2014 It could be said that we are creatures of habit. So it was no surprise that we went to Shrewsbury Folk festival in the Tardis for the 4th year in succession, and went to look at our usual parking space/ camping spot. There was a Giraffe there ... in the exact same space: They were on display from the British Iron Work Centre  I'll do a separate page to show some of the other sculptures. And as it happens this year we had parked somewhere completely different, and just found the Giraffe later on when we went steel animal hunting. Jobs done Lumber support in my chair using air bags from an office chair Winch electrics wired up and tested ... about 18 months after buying it. That's worth a separate web page too. Our better parking space was near tent 2 but turned out to be under a spotlight Festival was bigger and better, Weather was mixed with a fair share of rain and record breaking col...

The Winch

I finally fitted a 4 tonne hydraulic superwich . I bought it from Ned in Ireland - he had removed it from a utilities Iveco vehicle. winch delivered At the Rear The Tardis already has hydraulics at the rear of the vehicle and the weight distribution is better with it at the back, it was relatively easy to locate there. It is said a winch at the rear is better because you can pull yourself out of trouble rather then further into the problem - that being said visibility is not so good from the driver's seat. The plan Understand the control box Ask Ned for the missing parts Buy a sheet of 6mm steel to mount it on Fix steel on top of bike rack mechanism Bolt winch on Work out where to put the roller guides. (very difficult because if the bike rack and rear access) Test using the bike rack hydraulic control Test using the electric operated solenoids. The control circuit seemed to have several of safety interlocks, which are now all removed. Some pipes and extra safe...

Rear Bump stops

One missing, the other falling apart. I think it would pass an MOT with none, but they seemed rather useful, particularly as the axle sits on them if the airbags deflate (which they used to when the air leaked out - not a problem any more). Bump stops 93803992 at £25.23 each before: N/S : O/S : new rubber All in place 31 August: Fitted With the suspension deflated:

Brake Master Cylinder

Image
the brakes are good .... except that on rare occasions the fluid level drops. I tracked that down to a leak from the master cylinder into the booster. Southam Mini metro showed me how to disconnect the vacuum hose and suck up the fluid from the booster with a syringe. Some internet advice was, "just top it up, brake fluid is cheap" but I want to have 100% confidence in the brake system. It is a Bendix master cylinder and booster (later models used a Bosch version) it is only available as a complete unit part number 414844300  superseded by  99436561 The parts are common across the range. Shock horror Iveco dealers say that the part is discontinued and completely unavailable. that's the first time they have let me down, all sorts of odd bits and pieces even those special to a 4x4 seemed to be available from special order if not from stock. Vexi say the same. Zepplin trading (cheap Iveco Parts) agreed but helpfully gave me some other contacts. the forum also helped....
