Stopping Places and satnav coordinates.
Here are a list of stopping places, some we stopped at others we spotted - most are mentioned in the blog. Bear in mind the dates: we were travelling March/April so you may get a different experience in the height of summer.
A new, large and very welcoming service station, off the A67
N42 21.787 W4 23.198
Fromista
A small very basic municpal Aire (includes waste disposal and water) off the A67
See the Blog (Fromista is interesting in itself)
N42 15.891 W4 24.791
Salamanca
Free parking in the city centre, by the river and near the historic town centre. Next to a Lidl
No facilities, but seems to be well known. It is a car park for a municipal office, so no idea what it is like during the day.
N40 57.458 W5 40.585
Banos de Montemayor
A parking space / picnic place off A66. Flat plenty of space. No facilities
N40 19.477 W5 51.697
Leon
On our way back up. Free motorhome parking by the river in the town. water and waste disposal if you can find them. Shopping centre over the road. Lots of wardens (cars have to pay) so park in the right area.
N42 36.280 W5 35.095
Market square free, No facilities, but an outstanding place to stay. Market on Saturday so it does fill up with cars during the morning, but the market itself is in the street at the side of the square.
N38 50.581 W7 35.162
Evora
Large market square just outside the town walls. Free, no facilities. Looked like a piece of wasteland. We did not stop and chose the only campsite (2km South) instead. But there is no matching the convenience of the market square. There were development plans so it may improve.
N38 33.967 W7 54.494
Monchique
Free parking in the town. Tourist information say for 24hrs only, but if you did not ask them, you would not know. Toilets and shower. But it is a small place and very noisy - lots of traffic coming, going and turning round.
N37 19.212 W8 33.153
Foia, the biggest peak overlooking Monchique, has a restaurant on the top with a big parking space, deserted at night, great views.
N37 18.967 W8 35.588
Also stopping places all the way up the road. (e.g. N37 18.444 W8 36.299 )
Aljezur
Small free parking in middle of town, next to a lovely little municipal market.
N37 18.983 W8 48.171
Arrifana
Beach with cliff top cafe. A few laybys on top of the cliffe.
N37 17.777 W8 52.105
Secret beach
Top secret.
Sagres
We stopped at a proper campsite ( N37 01.367 W8 56.733 ) but don't follow the satnav, head along the N268 towards the point and look for the camping sign. There are several parking spaces along the N268 and around the town, but we did not use any.
Almograve
great beach. cafe and car park at top, but more interesting is a long track along the cliff top with dunes at the side.
N37 38.548 W8 48.378
N38 34.784 W8 40.674

Parking space near the river, and spa. Informal and free, no facilities. Probably not allowed if you ask Tourist information, but police were friendly.
